Conservation Talks: Service of Mangroves in the Coastal Areas

As part of its ongoing Conservation Talks series, Mangrove Matters PH hosted a public learning session focused on the ecological and socioeconomic importance of mangrove ecosystems in coastal communities.

The second episode featured Robert Ballon, Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and respected fisherfolk leader, who shared insights on the diverse services provided by mangroves and their significance to coastal livelihoods. The discussion highlighted how mangrove ecosystems support fisheries, strengthen food security, protect shorelines from erosion and extreme weather events, and contribute to the overall well-being of coastal communities.

Through an interactive online platform, participants had the opportunity to engage in discussions and ask questions about the challenges and opportunities surrounding mangrove conservation. The session emphasized the value of integrating local experiences and community perspectives into broader conversations on environmental stewardship and sustainable coastal resource management.
