In January 2025, Mangrove Matters PH launched the first installment of its Conservation Talks series, a public education initiative designed to foster informed discussions on pressing environmental and coastal governance issues in the Philippines.
The inaugural session focused on the implications of the Supreme Court decision concerning commercial fishing activities within municipal waters. Recognizing the significance of the issue for coastal communities, small-scale fisherfolk, and marine resource management, the discussion brought together experts and advocates from different sectors to provide insights on the legal, environmental, and socioeconomic dimensions of the ruling.
Through an accessible online platform, the program encouraged greater public understanding of how policy decisions affect coastal ecosystems and the livelihoods that depend on them. The discussion highlighted the importance of sustainable fisheries management, equitable resource access, and the role of citizen engagement in shaping the future of marine conservation in the country.
As part of Mangrove Matters PH's broader commitment to environmental literacy and advocacy, the Conservation Talks series serves as a venue for knowledge-sharing, dialogue, and public participation on issues affecting biodiversity, coastal resilience, and sustainable development.
